Safety
Our Commitment
Wyoming Medical Center works diligently to ensure a safe, quality experience for our patients. We monitor numerous indicators throughout the organization to measure our performance to make sure we are meeting or exceeding your expectations. Wyoming Medical Center has pledged to be part of the “5 Million Lives Campaign” and follow National Safety Goals.
Your Commitment
You play a vital role in contributing to the safety of your health care experience. We encourage you to become an active, educated partner with our team of experts. The following guidelines are from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
10 Tips for Patient Safety
- Make sure your doctors know about every medicine you are taking, including over-the-counter medications and dietary supplements like vitamins and herbs.
- Make sure your doctors know about any allergies or adverse reactions you have had to medicines.
- When your doctor writes you a prescription, make sure you can read it. If you can’t, your pharmacist may not be able to either.
- Ask for information about your medications in terms you can understand.
- When choosing a hospital, select one at which many patients have had the procedure or surgery you need.
- While in the hospital, consider asking all health care workers who have direct contact with you whether they have washed their hands.
- When you are discharged, ask your doctor to explain the treatment plan you will use at home.
- If you are having surgery, make sure that you, your doctor, and your surgeon all agree and are clear on exactly what will be done.
- When it comes to tests and treatments, know that more isn’t always better. Find out why a test or treatment is needed and how it can help. If you have a test, don’t assume no news is good news; call about the results.
- Learn about your condition and treatments by asking your doctor or nurse and by using reliable sources.
JCAHO National Patient Safety Goals - Its mission is to continuously improve the safety and quality of care provided to the public through the provision of health care accreditation and related services that support performance improvement in health care organizations.
5 Million Lives Campaign - Do No Harm. It is a fundamental principle for health care providers: primum non nocere – first, do no harm. It is our duty, our responsibility. Patients ask and assume that the health care that intends to help them should, at the very least, not injure them.
